RTM's
laser measurement systems allow the dimensional check of cylindrical
objects through the evaluation and record of outer/inner diameter/dimension
and of their overall length. Non-contact triangulation systems allow
recording the distance of the workpiece from the sensor. Measurement
is obtained by comparing signals of couples of opposed sensors to gauge
a defined dimension By performing a vertical scanning through a controlled
axis, it is possible to record the internal and external profile of
the workpiece, along a complete cross section of the piece. By turning
the gauge around the workpiece axis, it is possible to increase at will
the numbers of sections to be measured, in order to detect contour defects
(circularity, parallelism, …).
Calibration is achieved by a masterpiece of known dimension, periodically
introduced in the machine. Contour gauging is obtained with acceptable
accuracy and definition depending on the sensor type and on the surface
condition and geometry. A wide range of possible situations exists,
each one tackled with a particular strategy. The line may work in automatic
procedure and groups of products can be easily managed through simple
software modifications.
